Oh boy.
A man who accidentally shot himself in a north Columbia, Mo., gas station last week was charged with a felony on Monday.
According to the probable cause statement, police were called to the I-70 Eagle Stop gas station around 7 p.m. for a report of shots fired by a man who said he shot himself.
As first reported by KMIZ-TV, Shelton allegedly told police that he was in line at the counter of the convenience store of the gas station and had a gun tucked in his waistband.
The suspect then said that as he pulled up his pants, the gun went off. The bullet grazed his right knee. He went outside the gas station and threw the gun on the roof of a nearby vacant building.
Brandon Shelton, 30, of Columbia, was charged with stealing a gun and is being held at the Boone County Jail on a $15,000 bond. He appeared in court Monday by video from the jail.
The Columbia Fire Department assisted police in retrieving the gun from the roof.
According to the statement, police checked the serial number and discovered that the gun had been reported stolen from Macon.
The statement also mentions that police located a gun magazine in one of his jacket pockets. Adding insult to injury, Shelton also had an outstanding failure-to-appear warrant.
Police at the scene had told the TV news reporter on the scene that Shelton's injuries were "very minor."
