Holcim Building Envelope announced on Tuesday plans for the construction of a new Malarkey Roofing Products plant in Franklin, Ind., about 20 miles south of Indianapolis, on a 135-acre campus that will hold a 300,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and warehouse.
In an August 13 news release, Holcim Building Envelope said the new facility is expected to break ground later this year and add about 200 jobs to the local economy. The company said the plant will focus on accelerating green growth in commercial and residential applications.
Production of residential roofing shingles on its two manufacturing lines is planned to commence by mid-2026; Holcim said the operation will improve access and delivery time for customers in the Midwest and Northeast.
"Our addition of a Malarkey facility in Indiana demonstrates Holcim Building Envelope's dedication to providing our customers with innovative and sustainable solutions for the building envelope,” said Jamie Gentoso, President of Holcim Building Envelope and Global Head of Holcim Solutions & Products.
“We are committed to being a good neighbor in the communities in which we operate while bringing high-quality products and top-notch service to our customers," she added.
The new plant and the recent opening of the LEED-certified Elevate commercial roofing manufacturing and distribution center in Salt Lake City dovetail with Holcim Building Envelope’s broader growth strategy throughout North America.
In a separate statement, Malarkey said the plant will offer the local workforce “diverse opportunities,” from entry-level positions to skilled roles, focusing on creating a clear career advancement path within operations and emphasizing the potential for long-term employment and professional growth.
“Franklin is an attractive, strategic location for businesses nationwide,” Steve Barnett, Franklin’s mayor, said in the statement. “Malarkey’s decision to produce high-performance, sustainable roofing here is great news for our city and the entire region.”
