SPRI Announces Plans to Revise Design Standard for Edge Systems
Standard provides the basic requirements for wind load design of roof edge securement systems

SPRI, the association representing sheet membrane and component suppliers to the commercial roofing industry, announced that SPRI ED-1 “Design Standard for Edge Systems Used with Low-Slope Roofing Systems” is being revised and will be re-canvassed for approval as an American National Standard.
This Standard provides the basic requirements for wind load design of roof edge securement systems, including gutters and nailers.
It also provides information on material thicknesses that ensure satisfactory flatness, accommodates thermal movement, explains how to minimize corrosion, outlines methods for testing roof edge systems, and addresses other factors affecting roof edge performance.
This Standard applies to roof edge systems for low-slope membrane roof systems, with low slope defined as roofs having a slope of less than 9.5 degrees (2:12).
The ED-1 Standard was first approved as an ANSI standard in 2019. It was developed under the design requirements of ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1 and ANSI/SPRI GD-1 to create a new design standard, ED-1.
This standard is now undergoing its regular review as required by SPRI’s ANSI procedures.
