The ANSI/SPRI, ES 1-98 Standard – supported by the Code Development Committee as part of the International Code Council code development hearings last spring – was approved by the full ICC membership in December. The commercial building industry will now be required to install systems that meet a standard set of requirements for testing and evaluating wind resistance and long-term performance of commercial roof edging designs.
The ICC includes the Building Officials and Code Administration, the International Conference of Building Officials and Southern Building Code Congress International. “This approval by the ICC code committee and the full membership is very important,” explains David Roodvoets, technical director of SPRI. “This is the first industry-sponsored roof edge design standard, and the ICC will be the code of the land in the future.”
