Thor Systems Inc., Larksville, Pa., announced receipt of a Notice of Allowance from the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Thor Systems Inc., Larksville, Pa., “The Helper of Roofers,” announced receipt of a Notice of Allowance from the United States Patent and Trademark Office stating that the claims in the Thor patent application for roofing layout tapes are allowable and will issue as a U.S. Patent in due course.

The patent application is directed to Roofing Layout Tapes that provide a new way of installing roofing shingles and other related construction materials. The patent covers a variety of layout processes and can be made specific to any application requiring a grid system for proper installation.

The company’s layout tapes allow contractors to quickly and easily create a computer-accurate installation grid that includes both horizontal and vertical offset alignment hash marks, all without any reading or math skills required. The highly variable human labor issue is all but eliminated. The system has already been proven in the field to cut labor costs by 18 to 36 percent.

“We are pleased to be recognized by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for our work in developing this new layout tool concept and technology,” said company President Ronald C. Hungarter, inventor of the Thor System of tools. “This new layout tool concept and the tools that use it can be tailored to meet the individual needs of manufacturers of various other building materials in addition to roofing materials. This will enable the Thor system to become the premier choice for construction layouts of the future.”
