Custom-Bilt Metals, South El Monte, Calif., has been licensed to manufacture, market and sell Vail Metal Systems LLC's metal shingle products in the Western states, along with limited rights to market and sell the products throughout the United States.
"Custom-Bilt is the premier manufacturer and supplier of metal roofing materials in its market and is perfectly suited to provide a custom product such as ours," says Pat Warren, of Vail, who described the agreement as an industry milestone. Vail recently reacquired its patents and proprietary production technology from Owens Corning, and reintroduced its highly popular copper and metal shingle products to the construction materials market.
"This is an exciting addition to our product line," says Custom-Bilt's president, Tony Chiovare. "We are enthusiastic about the opportunity, and are eager to further expand the product offering in the months to come."
Custom-Bilt will offer Vail products under two names: The company's custom, solid copper panels will be marketed as Vail Majestic Copper and its Kynar-coated Galvalume metal panels will be sold under the brand, Vail Titan Select.
Both products are based on the design that Vail initially introduced in the resort markets of Vail, Beaver Creek and Aspen, Colo. The design features a concealed fastener, interlocking shingle panel system that is easy to install, maintenance-free and extremely resistant to all forms of severe treatment. Warren says that the products' interlocking panel design has been tested for resistance to wind-driven rain at 110 miles per hour, at a rate of nearly 9 inches of rain per hour. It also has been tested for wind resistance at constant wind speeds of 130 mph, with gusts to 150 mph. With its Class A fire resistance rating, the product also meets all major building codes including the Miami-Dade County and ICBO codes.
