VALLEY FORGE, Pa. - CertainTeed Gypsum, a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, the world’s leading producer of gypsum products, today announces plans to build a new, state-of-the-art plant in Las Vegas, Nevada for the manufacture of ready-mix joint compounds, setting-type joint compounds and powdered textures. The company will break ground on the 100,000-square-foot plant this month and begin production late next year.
"Our customers in the Southwestern United States have asked us for a full interior finishing system consisting of ProRoc®-branded gypsum board, joint treatments and tapes," says George Wattman, General Manager for CertainTeed Gypsum Finishing Products. "This expansion helps us achieve our goal of being their preferred choice for innovative building products and systems."
Currently CertainTeed Gypsum operates a gypsum wallboard plant in Las Vegas and selected the city for a second facility because it will provide customers in the southwest region quick access to a full-line offering of wallboard and finishing products. In addition, the proximity of two facilities will allow the company to provide both product lines in a single shipment, a further benefit to customers.
Don Moses, President of CertainTeed Gypsum, said the project will be the company’s second joint compound plant in the U.S. and added it will build upon the growth model that CertainTeed has established in the Pacific Northwest at the Kent, Wash. facility.
The new facility, specifically located in North Las Vegas, will operate at world-class manufacturing standards and is part of CertainTeed Gypsum’s efforts to become a full-line supplier of gypsum board products and accessories throughout North America.
Headquartered in Valley Forge, Pa., CertainTeed and its affiliates have approximately 8,000 employees and 70 manufacturing facilities throughout the United States and Canada. In 2006 the group had consolidated sales approaching $4 billion. For more information, visitwww.certainteed.com.
