CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Texas Governor and presidential candidate Rick Perry visited D. C. Taylor Co., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Tuesday as a part of his Midwest bus tour. He spent about one hour talking business with D. C. Taylor President Phil Suess, touring the commercial roofing company's headquarters, meeting employees and speaking about creating jobs for Americans. Gov. Perry also spent time greeting more than 60 of the roofing company’s employees from all over the U.S. who were in Cedar Rapids for a training session.

Perry, along with his wife and family , learned more about the issues facing the commercial roofing industry and how the company has managed to hire 232 employees since 2008, a feat that few businesses its size have accomplished in the last three years.

“Governor Perry was very interested in learning more about our company’s safety and risk management programs, how we build roofs that are more sustainable and green, and our approach to recycling and keeping materials out of landfills,” said Suess “We were very appreciative that he chose D. C. Taylor Co. as one of his stops along his tour.”

D. C. Taylor Co. realizes its clients require planning and information from the company that allows for better decisions, a reduction of waste and to be more efficient in maintaining roof assets as well as extending the life of the roofs.

“Our commitment to environmental and sustainability goals go beyond installing cool white roofs and insulation,” explained Suess. “As a founding member of The Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing (CEIR), we want to help our customers achieve comprehensive, sustainable and proactive management practices related to their roofing assets.”

Installing solar panels to generate energy, using daylighting systems to reduce energy consumption, and reusing or recycling roofing components to reduce waste are just a few of the environmentally responsible solutions it provides customers nationwide.

D. C. Taylor Co. is one of the 20 largest industrial roofing contractors in the U.S. It’s Risk Management and Safety program includes permanent fall protection and services that identify and mitigate everyday risks such as injuries from falls and food contamination. All of which is designed to protect the customer, its employees and property.
