The updated volume discusses the design, materials and installation techniques applicable to asphalt shingle, clay and concrete tile, metal shingle, slate, and wood shake and wood shingle roof systems used in steep-slope roofing applications. 
 
The manual is composed of five sections: Asphalt Shingle Roof Systems, Clay and Concrete Roof Systems, Metal Shingle Roof Systems, Slate Roof Systems, and Wood Shake and Wood Shingle Roof Systems. Each section includes construction details and information about roof decks, underlayments, materials design and installation. 
 
NRCA also has made available The NRCA Roofing Manual CD—2013, which complements The NRCA Roofing Manual: Steep-slope Roof Systems—2013. The CD contains electronic copies of all four volumes of The NRCA Roofing Manual: The NRCA Roofing Manual: Steep-slope Roof Systems—2013, The NRCA Roofing Manual: Metal Panel and SPF Roof System—2012, The NRCA Roofing Manual: Membrane Roof Systems—2011, and The NRCA Roofing Manual: Architectural Metal Flashing, Condensation Control and Reroofing—2010, as well as numerous viewable construction details.
