DENVER — Johns Manville (JM) has announced plans to significantly expand capacity at its Scottsboro, Ala., TPO manufacturing facility.

JM offers a full line of products including built-up, modified asphalt, polyiso and single-ply systems. In October 2008, the company opened its first state-of-the-art thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) facility in Scottsboro, Ala. JM furthered its investment in single ply in 2012 with the opening of its ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) manufacturing plant in Milan, Ohio. The company will complete construction at the Scottsboro plant next month, increasing overall TPO production capacity by 20 percent.

According to the company, its TPO formulation has remained unchanged since its launch and has proven to be durable under real-world conditions of heat and UV exposure.

“Commercial Roofers Inc. began installing TPO more than 10 years ago,” said Scott Howard, president of Commercial Roofers Inc. “We have found it to be installer friendly and energy compliant. It has a long, useful life expectancy and is cost effective. This provides great benefits for the building owner.”

JM has more than 157 years of roofing history and experience. Over the past decade, the company has invested more than $125 million in the commercial roofing business and its customers.

“It’s a very exciting time to be a part of JM single ply,” said Jennifer Ford-Smith, director of marketing and single ply. “We’re ready to move forward with this expansion and eager to bring additional products to our customer partners as we join together in the growing TPO market.”
