BYRON CENTER, Mich./ATLANTA — Atlas Roofing Corporation has announced its sponsorship of upcoming construction at Camp Liberty. Located in Ann Arbor, Mich., Camp Liberty provides therapeutic programs to U.S. military service members, veterans and their families through inclusive outdoor recreation. Stretching across 137 beautiful acres, Camp Liberty offers acres of prairie grasses and wildflowers, hunting grounds for deer, turkey, coyote and pheasants, along with riverfront property for fishing, kayaking and canoeing. Camp Liberty’s purpose is to aid U.S. veterans with rehabilitation and reintegration, particularly those recovering from traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorders, in a natural outdoor setting. Thus far, Camp Liberty has invested $35 million into conservation to support the wildlife on its property.
Camp Liberty acquired its property in December of 2012 and is in early stages of phase-one construction. Roads and foundations have been completed, and framing is scheduled to begin in early April. This first phase will provide facilities for recreational therapy and educational services to educate veterans and the public about treatments available for traumatic brain injuries. Together, Atlas EPS and Atlas Roofing are donating $20,000 worth of materials towards the build, including ThermalStar® LCi-SS™ (insulated structural sheathing), ThermalStar Radiant Comfort™ (in-floor heat panels), CrossVent® Nail Base, Pinnacle® roof shingles featuring ScotchGard® Protector, Gorilla Guard® roof underlayment and WeatherMaster® Polyseal™ underlayment.
Funding for Camp Liberty comes strictly from grants, private loans and fundraising events, with facilities staffed and operated entirely by volunteers. To date, Camp Liberty has collected $210,000 worth of materials and $70,000 in cash donations. Estimated cost for phase-one construction is $360,000. Since Camp Liberty staff is volunteer and overhead expense is minimal, spending can be dedicated to programs, equipment or facilities.
