WAUKESHA, Wis. — Charles (Chuck) Skalski, president of Gaco Western, recently announced he will retire at the end of 2017.
Skalski’s 27-year career with the company is highlighted by many major milestones, including the acquisition of Gaco Western by Firestone Building Products in April of this year. In addition, Skalski’s tenure featured the launch of the first Gaco Architectural Specifications containing Gaco Silicones in 1993, the launch of a dedicated Technical Services Team in 2008 for inspections and in-field training, and in 2013, a move from a primarily direct-to-contractor sales model to a full distribution go-to-market strategy covering all aspects of distribution and dealers.
“Chuck has helped Gaco achieve exceptional growth and success across his nearly three decades with the company,” said Taylor Cole, president, Firestone Building Products. “He has been a driving force in turning a small company into an industry leader that set the standard for Silicone Roof Coatings. His outstanding contributions have put Gaco in position for continued success, and we wish him the very best in retirement.”
Skalski joined Gaco in 1991 as an area manager to develop Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Ontario, Canada. In 1995, he became a district manager covering the northeast from Maine to Virginia, and in 2001 was named national sales manager. In 2003, Skalski was named vice president, sales and became a founding member of the Gaco Executive Leadership Team (ELT). He was named president in 2016.
“After thousands of nights in hotels, hundreds of thousands of miles in cars, and literally millions of miles in airplanes, I will depart Gaco at the end of 2017. I plan to take a breath and enjoy my family. My wife, Rose, and I are looking forward to fishing in the warmth of south Florida versus the cold and snow of Buffalo this winter,” said Skalski.
“The people of Gaco Western are among the most dedicated and loyal I’ve ever met, and I want to thank each for their support throughout my entire 27-year career at Gaco Western,” added Skalski. “Together we built an amazing company.”
Skalski is a six-year Navy Veteran. He is married to his wife of 32 years, Rose, and they have three children and five grandchildren.
