The Western States Roofing Contractors Association (WSRCA) will draw roofing contractors and other industry professionals from around the country as hosts of its 44th annual expo June 10-12 at the Paris in Las Vegas. And association officials are anticipating another great trade show.
Known as one of the roofing industry’s largest and well-attended trade shows, the WSRCA Expo is designed to benefit contractors from the western region of the United States, who often share common roofing and waterproofing needs given the specific circumstances and challenges brought about by climate, weather patterns and material acquisition problems they deal with.
Attendees will see a comprehensive collection of the latest products and services; learn from industry experts at the first-rate education program for roofing professionals to help contractors gain a foothold in growing trends within the roofing industry; and network in a professional, yet fun environment with some of the industry’s best and brightest talent.
If You Go
Highlights of the 2018 WSRCA Expo include more than a dozen educational seminars presented by leading industry experts across multiple fields; a keynote luncheon featuring former ESPN’s Up Close host Roy Firestone; the annual Roofing Games competition; fun recreational programs including golf and clay shooting to benefit academic scholarship programs; and multiple networking opportunities to help roofing contractors build their business.
And that doesn’t even cover the show floor, which was expanded last year to include more exhibitors and to accommodate demand for a wider variety of product offerings, new technology and services impacting the industry. Multiple live demonstrations of many of those products are scheduled to start on the show floor each day.
Championship Challenge
Also this year, roofing contractors can show their knack for quality craftsmanship and high efficiency during the fifth annual Roofing Games. Designed specifically for the roofing industry, The Roofing Games are the nation’s first official set of competitions sanctioned by a roofing association, and takes place annually in Las Vegas. Participants compete in a series of events that challenge their knowledge and skill set level pertaining to equipment, materials and processes used in the roofing industry.
Malarkey Roofing Products will again sponsor the competition and reward the winning roofing contractor with cash and prizes.
They will be required to install a Malarkey Roofing Products roofing system on a small deck while being timed by independent judges. Participants will be judged on accuracy, aesthetics, speed and quality workmanship. Penalty seconds are added for any nails outside of Malarkey’s patented Zone® nailing area.
Upping the ante this year, the manufacturer is planning to bring back previous winners Sean Johnson (2014) and Brad Schmautz (2015) to take on two-time defending champion John Miles, who established a record time of 2:29.
Leaving a Mark
Roofing contractors attending the show can also make a difference in securing the roofing industry’s future by supporting the Davis Memorial Foundation. Now in its 21st year, the foundation has helped loved ones of roofing contractors from across the country achieve academic success and further their careers in roofing with multiple scholarships.
Since its inception following the tragic deaths of Larry and Mary Davis in a plane crash in 1995, the foundation – a non-profit operated by the WSCRA – has helped more than 300 students reach their academic dreams. As in past years, the organization will host a golf tournament, sporting clays tournament, and a silent auction Sunday, June 10 during the expo welcome party.
