SHELBY TWP., Mich. — The Southeastern Michigan Roofing Contractors Association Inc. announced that its Scholarship Grant Committee has awarded four scholarship grants to college bound students in mid and southeast Michigan. 

Commercial Roofing Contractors of Southeastern Michigan, through the Southeastern Michigan Roofing Contractors Association (SMRCA), along with the Roofers Union Local No. 149 annually awards college scholarships to dependents of employees of member roofing contractors.

This year’s winners were: 

  •  Leonardo Diaz, Detroit 
  • Amanda Gilliam, Allen Park, Mich.
  • Dylan Greenberg, Saginaw, Mich. 
  • Sumer Williams – Millington, Mich.

Applicants were asked to submit an essay by selecting one or more of the following topics: roofing technology, roofing safety, roofing impact or roofing ethics to the Joint Union/Contractor Scholarship Committee. 

Winners receive scholarships in the amount of $1,000 contributed by the SMRCA, Roofers Union Local No. 149 and the contractor employer. The governors of the Scholarship Committee presented the awards.

Initiated over 20 years ago, the association said in a release that this program is an example of the SMRCA/Roofers Union Local No. 149 and SMRCA Member Contractors working to promote continued education and to encourage industry dependents to attend college.
