JOPLIN, Mo. — The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) has recognized TAMKO Building Products Inc. for its commitment to workplace safety with nine prestigious awards for the company’s achievements in 2017.
The list of awards includes the ARMA Perfect Safety Award, which went to three different TAMKO facilities.
“Safety is a top priority and essential to all we do at TAMKO,” said TAMKO’s President and CEO David Humphreys. “TAMKO’s safety message to all employees is simple: If it’s not safe, don’t do it. And, I’m proud of our employees’ continued efforts to put that message into practice every day.”
The ARMA Perfect Employee Safety Award is earned based on a location’s safety record of no lost or restricted days and no reportable OSHA incidents in 2016. The three TAMKO manufacturing facilities earning this award include a cements and coatings plant in Green Cove Springs, Fla.; an asphalt processing plant in Inwood, W. Va.; and a felt mill in Knoxville, Tenn. This is the first time for the Knoxville facility to earn the award, the third time for the Inwood facility and the fifth time for the Green Cove Springs location.
The general manager of TAMKO’s Green Cove Springs facility, John Pratt, says success with safety has a lot to do with team work.
“Safety teams are a great asset to TAMKO’s safety program. Everyone must be on board, engaged and pulling together in their various roles,” said Pratt.
ARMA also awarded the 2017 Safety Improvement Award to six TAMKO facilities for reducing the ARMA Safety Index score by 25 percent or more at each facility over the previous year. Locations receiving this honor include the Green Cove Springs, Florida, Inwood, West Virginia and Knoxville, Tennessee facilities; plus, TAMKO’s asphalt shingle plants in Frederick, Md., Joplin, Mo. and Tuscaloosa, Ala.
TAMKO said in a release that it has been recognized many times in the past for its safety achievements, including more than 80 ARMA awards companywide since 2007.
