TYLER, Texas — AVCO Roofing recently donated a total of $150,000 to five charitable nonprofits in the east Texas region.
The money was given at the end of 2018 and part of the company’s #AVCOGIVESBACK initiative.
“We want to give back to the community so that’s what this program is all about,” said Heath Hicks, owner, AVCO Roofing, in a live Facebook feed announcing the winners.
The company’s website further explained the purpose of the program.
“At our core, AVCO Roofing is about protecting homes, strengthening families, and building communities,” the site states. “Those three simple statements define everything we do and who we strive to be.
“To that end, AVCO Roofing commits to donates 1 percent of EVERY residential project to benefit a local charity that YOU, our local community, help us to select.”
Voting took place online and voters did not have to be past or present customers.
The charities that were voted on were selected via a nomination process.
The five organizations that received the most votes (and split the $150,000) were:
- Hookset Brothers Combat Recovery
- Living Alternatives
- Breckenridge Village of Tyler
- Good Shepherd School
- Nicholas’ Pet Haven
The initiative was featured on KETK-TV, a local NBC-TV affiliate, during a segment that can be viewed below:
