JOPLIN, Mo. — TAMKO Building Products is kicking off a nationally-recognized workplace safety week by announcing a new set of prestigious industry awards for safety at the company’s manufacturing facilities.
TAMKO’s Ennis, Texas, fiberglass mat manufacturing facility recently received the 2018 Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) Perfect Safety Award. The ARMA Perfect Safety Award is earned when a facility records zero lost or restricted days and zero recordable OSHA incidents during a calendar year. This marks the sixth time TAMKO Ennis has earned this award.
Additionally, both the Ennis facility, and TAMKO’s Dallas, Texas, shingle manufacturing facility were recognized with ARMA’s Safety Improvement Award for reducing their ARMA Safety Index scores by 25 percent or more over the previous year.
“Why do we care so much about safety at TAMKO? There is one reason: People,” said David Humphreys, TAMKO president and CEO. “At TAMKO, we believe that safety is not optional.”
The awards announcement came just in time for North American Occupational Health & Safety (NAOSH) Week and the National Safety Stand-Down to prevent falls in construction, both celebrated the first full week in May. In recognition of these events, TAMKO is hosting a new internal safety campaign to raise continued awareness of the importance of preventing slip, trip and fall accidents.
TAMKO said safety is a year-round focus and one of the company’s core values. TAMKO’s innovative Zero Incident Safety Culture (ZISC) took the company’s focus on continuous improvement a step further, striving for a culture where even one workplace injury is unacceptable. Since implementing ZISC in 2005, TAMKO has reduced its number of OSHA recordable injuries by 74 percent.
