TUALATIN, Ore. – Columbia Roofing & Sheet Metal announced Michael Sheets has joined its team as its new general manager and chief financial officer.
In his new role, Sheets will helm the 49-person company, managing day-to-day operations and financial responsibilities. This includes managing the construction of a headquarters expansion project slated to be completed by year end.
Sheets’ background encompasses a number of financial roles held at Utah-based companies. He previously served as USA director of finance and operations at Scott USA, Inc. and DFG, Inc. in Ogden, Utah and held controller and senior accountant roles at Eide Bailly LLP, Page Brake Warehouse and Fly J, Inc. He holds a Master of Accountancy and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Westminster College in Salt Lake City.
During a company meeting, Sheets explained that working at his father’s company as a kid laid the groundwork for what he looks for in selecting a business partner. In particular, he was drawn the roofing contractor’s unique programs.
“Part of what attracted me to Columbia Roofing was the Columbia Roof Advantage – our roofing maintenance program, which sets us apart from others in our industry,” Sheets said. “I’m here to redefine and tune. My dad taught me to focus on the little stuff – the nickels and dimes – and then the big stuff will continue to come in.”
Columbia Roofing & Sheet Metal CEO Mark Carpenter said he was impressed by Sheets’ leadership abilities along with his past record of helping companies become financially organized.
“After spending more than two decades of running Columbia Roofing and many hours talking with Michael, I realized he is a great match with our Core Values and with our culture,” Carpenter said. “I’m excited to have Michael take our financial reins and run with them.”
Scotts is among the many new hires announced by Columbia Roofing & Sheet Metal this year. In February, the company brought on two commercial roofing consultants, followed by a third consultant in May.
California-based Long Beach Roofing – owned by Columbia Roofing & Sheet Metal – also announced the hiring of Gary Harn as a project coordinator. Hahn previously worked in sales and business development for a solar company in Long Beach and has 15 years of experience working in the construction industry.
“Gary is a great support to our sales team in Southern California,” Carpenter said. “He brings youth and enthusiasm to his role as project coordinator.”
