Members of the Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association (RSMCA) of Georgia are mourning the loss of long-time member Ivey “Sonny” Mock, Jr.
Mock, Jr., 80, entered rest on Aug. 4. He was the owner and operator of Modern Roofing and Metal Works Inc. During his career, he served as president of the RSMCA of Georgia in 1982, was a 1984 honoree of the RSMCA of Georgia Torte en Facia, a 1985 Boone Noblitt Award Recipient, and the 2016 RSMCA of Georgia Honorary Lifetime Member Award.
A native of Augusta, Ga., Mock, Jr. graduated from the Academy of Richmond County. He attended the University of Georgia, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1962. Along with his business and RSMCA involvement, Mock, Jr. coached football for 25 years with the Richmond County Recreation Department. He also served as president of the Augusta Sertoma Club and was governor of the State of Georgia Sertoma Club in 1974.
Mock, Jr. is survived by his wife of 25 years, Judy Mock. His other family members include: sons – Ivey Clark Mock, III (Tara), Kendall Hadden (Nikki), Jake Fowler (Jenna), and James Fowler (Susie); daughters – Kim Karnes (John), and Selina Ayala; grandchildren – McKynna Underwood, Joseph Krieg, Justin Krieg, Brandon Jeffers, Michael Hays, McKenna Hopkins, Tyler Hays, Dakota Hays, Abbigail Fowler, and Chip Fowler; sister – Elizabeth Chalker; nephew – Glenn Chalker; and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Aug. 7 at Thomas Poteet and Son Chapel. Mock, Jr. was laid to rest at Westover Memorial Park.
