SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Governors for the Scholarship Grant Committee awarded four scholarship grants to the college-bound students of Michigan roofing contractors.

The Commercial Roofing Contractors of Southeast Michigan, through the Southeastern Michigan Roofing Contractors Association (SMRCA) and the Roofers Union Local #149 join forces to annually award college scholarships to the dependents of employees of member roofing contractors.

The 2019 winners are:

  • Edie Emery — Lake Orion, Mich.
  • Emily Jones — Shelby Township, Mich.
  • Timothy Kirkland — Ecorse, Mich.
  • Carolina Molina — Detroit, Mich.

Applicants were asked to submit an essay by selecting one or more of the following topics: roofing technology, roofing safety, roofing impact or roofing ethics to the Joint Union/Contractor Scholarship Committee. Winners receive scholarships in the amount of $1,000 contributed by the SMRCA, Roofers Union Local #149 and the Contractor Employer.

Initiated over 20 years ago, this program is an example of the SMRCA/Roofers Union #149 and SMRCA Member Contractors working to promote continued education and to encourage industry dependents to attend college.
