Fundraisers have been organized to support the family of John “Johnny” Owczarski, a roofer and father who was fatally shot on Oct. 20 at a restaurant in Roseville, Mich.

According to the Macomb Daily, Roseville police responded to a call at 12:40 a.m. at Dooleys Irish Tavern regarding reports of a man being shot. When officers arrived, they found Owczarski lying on the floor of the bar’s restroom, dead from gunshot wounds.

Police said Owczarski, 37, and the suspect, a 21-year-old man, were having a heated argument, and the suspect pulled a gun and fired. The suspect was held by a customer until police arrived and arrested him. He was arraigned on Oct. 22 for second-degree murder, felony firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.

Following the incident, friends identified Owczarski on social media as the victim. Owczarski was a journeyman roofer for Schena Roofing & Sheet Metal in Chesterfield Township, Mich. for five years and, according to his obituary, a father of two.

“Schena Roofing is deeply saddened at the tragic loss of our employee and friend Johnny Owczarski,” said Schena Roofing President Anthony Schena in a Facebook post. “His smile, laugh and energetic personality will be missed by all, especially those who worked with Johnny every day. The entire Schena Roofing family extends their deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Johnny O.”

Online fundraisers have been set up to collect funding for funeral services, their children, and his mother. Donations may be made here as well as on GoFundMe here.

Dooleys Irish Tavern is also planning on holding a fundraiser for Owczarski’s family. Additional security measures are being considered for the bar.
