According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, fatalities from falls still remain the leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for nearly 30% of construction fatalities recorded in 2018. In addition to dealing with fall protection, roofing contractors also face the difficulty of remaining safe while complying with COVID-19 safety guidelines.
In light of the 2020 National Safety Stand-Down week encouraging a virtual focus on safety, MSA Safety Inc. is hosting free online events throughout the week. Three virtual events the company is hosting includes:
- ABCs of Fall Protection: MSA safety experts explain the basics of fall protection, including the key components of fall arrest systems and a live Q&A. Sessions will be held Sept. 14 at 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. EST
- Confined Space Training: Find our more about what is considered a confined space and what PPE is required for safe confined space entry. The session will be held Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. EST
- PPE Solutions to Get Back to Work: As the country prepares to head back to work during the pandemic, it's critical to understand the risks workers may face at worksites and how these can be mitigated. The session will be held Sept. 16 at 12 p.m. EST
