ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Award winners were announced by ATAS for its 2020 Project of the Year competition. Each award recognizes projects in which ATAS products have been incorporated into the design and construction of the building.
Six project categories are included in the competition: commercial roofs, commercial walls, residential roofs, residential walls, accents, and interiors. First, second, and third place winners in each category were chosen by an independent panel of judges, comprised of ATAS advisory board members.
Commercial Roofing Winners
The Riverview Branch Library in Riverview, Fla. received the first-place honors for commercial roofs. Field-Lok panels in Dove Grey .040 aluminum were used on this project. The 2-inch high standing seam panels provided a perfect platform over which solar panels were installed. The long service life of the metal roof panels will far outlast the life expectancy of the solar panels. Standing seam metal panels provide a natural platform for attaching crystalline systems without any roof penetrations. The building was designed by FleischmanGarcia Architecture, and the metal roof panels were installed by Alpha Roofing and Sheet Metal. The panels were purchased through Beacon Building Products.
Second place in commercial roofing went to the Ventnor City Fire Department Station 1 project in Ventnor, N.J. Architect William McLees Architecture designed the project, and the Techo Tile Mission Red metal roof was installed by Boardwalk Construction Group. The metal panels were purchased through ABC Supply Co. Inc.
In third place was the McCartney Street Residences project in Easton, Pa. The architect for the project was Atkin Olshin Schade Architects, and Executive Roofing Systems served as the contractor, installing Dutch Seam in Slate Grey. The metal roofing was purchased through Brock Associates.
Residential Roofing Winners
Taking the first-place award in the residential roofs category was the Elysian Beach Resort in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. CastleTop shingles in .032 aluminum Ascot White were installed by Rooftops Silicone Distributors, Inc. A hurricane damaged the roof of this resort several years ago, and the composite roof tile was replaced with ATAS’ diamond shaped CastleTop shingles.
In second place was the Sunrise condos project, located in George Town on the Cayman Islands. Precision Industries served as the contractor, choosing to install 2-inch Field-Lok in Ascot White.
Taking third place was a private residence in Avalon, N.J., where architects Asher Slaunwhite Architects and contractor D.L. Miner Construction went with Dutch Seam in Titanium for the roof. The metal panels were purchased through Universal Supply Co.
“We are pleased to recognize all the architects, contractors, and distributors who were involved in the 2020 award-winning projects," said Jim Bush, vice president of sales and marketing for ATAS. "It’s great to see the creative designs and quality craftsmanship incorporated into these buildings. The use of metal continues to grow, and not only on the building enclosures; we are seeing increased use of metal for interiors as well. We look forward to this year’s project nominations for the 2021 competition.”
