Roofing contractors and the companies that support them were among those that thrived despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic to make Inc. magazine’s 2021 Inc. 5000 List.
The magazine’s annual list spotlights the fastest growing private companies in the U.S. This year’s Inc. 5000 list includes nearly 40 roofing contractors that had impressive gains over the past year. Companies are ranked by their percentage revenue growth from 2017 to 2020, meaning those on this year’s list grew amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The 2021 Inc. 5000 list feels like one of the most important rosters of companies ever compiled,” said Scott Omelianuk, editor-in-chief of Inc. “Building one of the fastest-growing companies in America in any year is a remarkable achievement. Building one in the crisis we’ve lived through is just plain amazing. This kind of accomplishment comes with hard work, smart pivots, great leadership, and the help of a whole lot of people.”
To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2017, and had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for-profit and independent. The minimum revenue requirement for 2017 was $100,000, and $2 million for 2020.
A number of the roofing companies are repeat Inc. 5000 entrants, like Amstill Roofing, and others made region-specific Inc. 5000 lists alongside the national list. Reliant Roofing ranked 3,162 on the national list and 202 on the Florida list.
“We are pleased to have continued our success, even amongst the trials our country has faced during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Cameron Shouppe and Sean Shapiro, owners of Reliant Roofing, in a joint statement. “This acknowledgment truly is a testament to our amazing staff. We are very privileged and thankful to have a team of professionals, who are dedicated to our customers and our company. We are honored to be recognized by Inc. 5000 Florida Regionals.”
Given that many of the companies experienced growth in 2020, they've also earned a spot on RC's 2021 Top 100 list, such as RestoreMasters Contracting, Kidd Roofing, Feazel and Lifetime Quality Roofing & Storm Restoration.
Not only did roofing contractors make the list, but companies within the roofing industry earned spots on the list as well. Software companies like JobNimbus, CompanyCam, and Leap (ranked 543, 629 and 637, respectively) made the list, demonstrating that contractors are embracing technology to further their businesses.
“We’re honored to be included in the Inc. 5000 this year, and to be included among such impressive companies,” said Ben Hodson, co-founder and CEO of JobNimbus. “So many organizations have been honored on this list and gone on to do incredible things. We owe a lot to our customers and employees for the growth we’ve had in the last three years, and we look forward to many more years of inclusion on the Inc. 5000.”
Other companies making the list for the first time include Contey Attorneys & Consultants (ranked 1,968), which underwent massive changes over the past 18 months including rebranding and launching a private equity and venture capital company.
“We are honored to be recognized in such a well-known publication like Inc. Together, John (Kenney, COO) and I work very hard to keep Cotney growing each year so we can continue to expand our services to the construction industry both nationally and internationally,” said Trent Cotney, CEO. “As a firm, we pride ourselves on having rapid growth every year in legal and consulting services.”
Overall, the median growth of the construction companies on the Inc. 5000 list was 136% and generated $21.9 billion in revenue. The industry added 21,529 jobs in the past year.
