More than 50 volunteers gave of their time and talent on Jan. 31 to help repair the homes of New Orleans residents during the 2022 Community Service Day Project.
Volunteers teamed up with Rebuilding Together New Orleans on the day before the International Roofing Expo to make repairs to three homes. The recipients of the renovation projects are three homeowners whose residences were damaged when Hurricane Ida swept through the Gulf Coast area in autumn 2021. Repairs were not limited to roofs; volunteers worked on weatherproofing windows, fresh coats of paint, treating termite damage, fence repair, and more.
“This is the biggest community outreach event the Sika Sarnafil roofing team participates in each year and has become one of our favorite traditions,” said Bill Bellico, Sika’s vice president for marketing and inside sales. “The IRE is always such a great event for the roofing industry but being able to help facilitate one aspect of the show that brings together members of that roofing community to give back in a positive way is extremely rewarding.”
Sika Sarnafil was the chief sponsor of the event. Additional sponsors included Carlisle Construction Materials, Centimark Innovative Roofing and Flooring Solutions, Damato Enterprises, GAF, ICP Building Solutions Group, and OMG Roofing Products. In addition, GAF is donating 50 roofs, which will help Rebuilding Together New Orleans reach their goal of replacing 100 roofs.
