Roofing contractors may lean on “economic realities” like the permanence of an individual and its potential employer to determine the status of subcontractors.
In this Legal Insights episode, Trent Cotney, partner at Adams and Reese, discusses the March 15, 2022 ruling that reinstates the Trump-era independent contractor rule that was previously rescinded by the current administration.
Cotney also provides important tips for contractors who are preparing their taxes this year, as they could be impacted by credits or loans generated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“At least in the first part of the year, you may be able to access certain tax credits as a result of paid time off because of COVID,” said Cotney.
Roofing Day in Washington, D.C. is taking place April 5-6, where roofing professionals will meet with their congressional representatives to share what issues are affecting the industry. Cotney discusses what Adams and Reese is doing to help contractors make a bigger impact.
