After finding themselves the victims offraud and embezzlementperpetrated by an employee, officials at National Roofing Partners began speaking out publicly about their case, what they learned, and how they took steps to protect the company in the future. Check them out below:

  1. Establish a Trade ID code on company credit cards that prevents purchases at places like jewelry stores or entertainment venues.
  2. Ensure a clear separation of duties between employees allowed to use company credit cards and those approving their charges.
  3. Watch out for conflict-of-interest vendors — those providing kickbacks to employees who might be personal friends or relatives for continued work.
  4. Beware of checks deposited to a personal account.
  5. Be mindful of payroll activity concerning former employees, including others taking advantage of that employee’s departure for personal gain.
