Dozens of roofing contractors and other roofing industry professionals from around the country will again help the families of North Texas as part of Community Service Day during the 2023 International Roofing Expo (IRE).
On March 6 – the day before the show floor opens at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center – busloads of contractors will converge on properties in the Dallas area that are in need of critical repairs and quality-of-life upgrades the homeowners otherwise could not afford. The Community Service Day tradition started 14 years ago when the IRE was hosted in New Orleans. Just as they did then, volunteers will again partner with Rebuilding Together, a national nonprofit geared toward helping homeowners in need, to identify projects they’ll spend the day on, said Brandi McElhaney, senior conference manager with Informa Markets, the annual event’s organizer.
“We do try to choose projects with homeowners in mind like the elderly, disabled veterans and others,” McElhaney says in this brief video chat with RC Group Publisher Jill Bloom.
McElhaney further describes the mission of the annual event and provides a few more details about plans for this year. Volunteers are still needed, and anyone interested can find out more by watching the video and clicking to register for the show. She emphasized that trade skills – particularly roofing skills – are a bonus, but not a prerequisite for participation. Attendees in the past helped out by painting, clearing attics, building handicap ramps, fences, porch steps, and even playscapes.
