It’s no secret inspectors with the Occupational Safety Health Administration have become more aggressive this year in enforcing rules on construction sites around the country. RC Legal Insights expert Trent Cotney, partner with Adams & Reese, said that includes citing contractors — roofers included - for violations of the General Duty Clause. Using that category gives inspectors great latitude to determine and highlight potential worksite hazards.
“We’re seeing more rule-making, we’re seeing more enforcement, and one of the things we’re starting to see recently is an uptick in general-duty citations,” Cotney told RC Publisher Jill Bloom in this brief video chat. “They use this wide net to cite contractors for everything under the sun.”
Cotney talked about the potential risks to contractors and the necessary steps to take before citations become an issue.
