The Davis Memorial Foundation has gifted $50,000 to 10 students this year for its 2023 scholarship season to support the next generation of students and aspiring professionals by rewarding superior academic performance and assisting students with financial needs.
In a news release, the Davis Memorial Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Western States Roofing Contractors Association trade group, announced this year’s 10 winners. Awards are made possible through funds established by the organization’s sponsors and various fundraising events.
Now in its 27th year of supporting higher education, the Davis Memorial Foundation was established in memory of Larry and Mary Davis. Larry was an integral part of the roofing industry for many years, serving on several roofing industry association boards, including the RCA of California and the Western States Roofing Contractors Association.
Since 1997, the Davis Memorial Foundation has awarded more than $750,000 through 170 scholarships.

The Davis Memorial Foundation is operated under the auspices of the Western States Roofing Contractors Association.
According to a news release announcing the winners, the Davis’ “…personified the heart and spirit of the roofing industry community. Committed to supporting the professional standing of roofing contractors, Larry promoted high standards and believed that a well-educated membership was key to the industry's future success.”
Larry Davis was the founder of State Roofing Co. in Modesto, Calif. He served as a director on the Western States RCA Board of Directors and was active on several committees, often flying to meetings with his wife in their private airplane.
Regretfully, the couple perished in a plane crash in 1995 on returning home from a committee meeting. The Foundation was created in their honor.
