The Garland Company, Inc., the Cleveland, Ohio-based manufacturer and building envelope products provider, announced on June 27 that Lily Hebert had been named the recipient of its 2023 Garland Scholarship.
Hebert is the daughter of Garland employee-owner Jay Hebert, who recently graduated from North Ridgeville High School in North Ridgeville, Ohio, and will begin her studies at Fordham University in New York City, majoring in biology and pre-med, the company said in a news release.
The Garland Sponsorship was created in 2020 to honor the company’s 125th anniversary. The scholarship amount increases annually to coincide with the years Garland has been in business; this year’s scholarship amount was $12,800 for Garland’s 128 years of operation.
Children of Garland employee-owners attending an accredited college or university are encouraged to apply. The company said to ensure a “fair selection,” applications are submitted with names redacted; a third-party outside committee evaluates all applications.
“As a 100% employee-owned company, we look for opportunities to invest in our people, and that includes their families,” Dave Sokol, Garland’s president and CEO, said. “The dedication and drive we saw from all the young people who applied for this year’s scholarship was inspiring.
“We have no doubt each of them will go on to have a tremendous impact on their communities and fields of study [and] we congratulate the Hebert family on Lily’s achievement to stand out among such a superlative group,” Sokol added.
