O’Donnell Metal Deck, a Maryland-based supplier and distributor of metal decking and building materials for commercial construction, announced on Tuesday that it has acquired both Tombari Structural Products and Metal Deck Direct, expanding its footprint into the Pacific Northwest and Midwest.
In a Nov. 21 news release, O’Donnell Metal Deck said the company acquired Tombari Structural Products, based in Spokane, Wash., in October 2023, followed by the addition of Metal Deck Direct, based in Lenoir City, Tenn., just outside of Knoxville, earlier this month.
The two additions now give O’Donnell Metal Deck a wide swath of services and reach to service steel fabricators and contractors nationwide, the company said. Tombari adds deep experience in larger, more complex projects, including those with seismic loads; MDD adds more sales and operations expertise and longstanding relationships in Tennessee, the Southeast, and the Mid-South.
Slate Capital Group, LLC partnered with management to acquire OMD in 2020 to support the company’s expansion strategy. O’Donnell Metal Deck now has sites in Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas, Phoenix, Spokane, Wash., Pennsylvania, and Knoxville, Tenn.
“We will now have a stronger presence in the greater Northwest, Southeast and Midsouth regions, all of which are booming for our business,” said Matt Weiss, CEO of O’Donnell Metal Deck. “We are certain that our joint mission of providing quality service will seamlessly continue.”
“We are thrilled to partner with the folks at O’Donnell Metal Deck,” Mike Tombari, president of Tombari Structural Products, said. “My parents started this business and will transition into retirement as part of this corporate change; it was important to find the right home for what they started and what we built together … the folks at O’Donnell and Slate Capital Group do business the right way.”
Foster Garvey PC was the legal advisor, and Capstone Partners was the financial advisor for Tombari Structural Products. Elmore, Stone & Caffey, PLLC served as legal advisor for Metal Deck Direct. Dentons, LLP served as legal advisor for O’Donnell Metal Deck for both acquisitions.
“When we thought about retirement, we wanted to know that our company and team would be in good hands,” said Keith Urban, president of Metal Deck Direct. “O’Donnell and Slate Capital Group operate their businesses much like we did; they take care of their customers and employees.”
