The Midwest Roofing Contractors Association is honoring those that go above and beyond to keep themselves and others safe with its 2024 Naphis Mitchell Reyes Excellence in Safety Award.

Nominations for the award will be accepted until Aug. 10. The recipient of this award must demonstrate a passion for safety as well as knowledge and understanding of safety, what the MRCA calls "a drive to create an authentic safety culture for their company or clients."

The award is named after Naphis Mitchell Reyes. He worked for Empire Roofing as its safety and risk director and helped develop safety programs for the MRCA. He dedicated nearly 20 years of his career to construction safety and successfully guided local, national and multi-national clients in health and safety through training and implementing programs.

Reyes passed away on Oct. 16, 2021 in Dallas. He was 56 years old.

"Those of us lucky enough to have known Naphis, know that he was a man who valued honor, truth, and family above all else," MRCA said in an email. "Always seeking excellence in all his endeavors; he would say 'I will never stop learning.' He was loved by every person that met him; he will forever be remembered in our hearts."
