When the Robert H. Williams Cultural Center needed a new roof to revitalize its operations, GAF and Craftsman Contractors of Lexington, Ky., stepped in to ensure the roof would provide a leak-free space.

Located in Lexington, the nonprofit RHWCC aims to provide a safe space for the entire neighborhood. Continuing its legacy and honoring its origins as a refuge for children, the center aims to start with literacy and after-school programs to support students of the adjacent Booker T. Washington Elementary School, with potential for summer camps and sports initiatives in the future.

“This new roof will be the catalyst for change – building the infrastructure to support our community, especially the kids. The new roof is key to revitalizing the center,” said Tora Carter, RHWCC’s creative director.

Craftsman Contractors donated the installation labor, and GAF, one of North America’s largest roofing manufacturers, donated the roofing materials. This collaboration was part of GAF’s social impact initiative, GAF Community Matters, which is focused on making a positive difference as neighbors and partners in the community by leveraging roofing expertise, resources and products to help build resilient communities.

“A community center is a vital resource for the kids in our neighborhood that provides them with a safe, nurturing space to go after school and on weekends — a place where they can learn, play, and grow,” said Phillip Petrie, president of Craftsman Contractors. ”We’re proud to partner with GAF to provide the necessary structure to bring the community together.”
