Northstar Clean Technologies Inc. announced last week that it has been issued a patent from the Canadian Intellectual Property Office for its front-end technology for reprocessing asphalt shingles; the Patent is expected to remain in force until 2042.

In a July 15 news release, Northstar also said it has a pending Patent Cooperation Treaty application, which preserves the right to file a patent application in any of the 157 PCT contracting states.

"We are pleased to have received our fast-tracked Canadian Patent for our proprietary asphalt shingle reprocessing technology,” said Aidan Mills, president and CEO of Northstar.

“The Patent follows two patents issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for both the front-end technology for reprocessing asphalt shingles and the follow-on patent for the second stage of our four-stage proprietary technology for reprocessing asphalt roofing shingles,” he added.

Northstar said it was granted fast-track status because it relates to green technology that either helps resolve or mitigate environmental impacts or conserves the natural environment or natural resources.
