Coming on the heels of a successful National Safety Stand Down campaign in May to highlight the need for better fall protection in construction, the Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) will celebrate safe workspaces during Safe + Sound Week, Aug. 12-18. The national event is designed to celebrate the successes of businesses that have implemented safety and health programs in the workplace in recent years.

This year, Safe + Sound Week will provide businesses with resources on job hazard analysis, which is becoming increasingly important to companies working on large job sites. The U.S. Department of Labor recently announced a final rule updating the current Hazard Communication Standard to align with global definitions, which went into effect July 19.

OSHA officials said that successful safety and health programs can proactively identify and manage workplace hazards before they cause injury or illness. They also improve worker morale and retention, company stability and the bottom line.

“Participating in Safe + Sound Week can help get your program started, energize an existing one or provide a chance to recognize your safety successes,” the agency states on its webpage dedicated to Safe + Sound Week. The agency again partners with roofing associations like the National Roofing Contractors Association to encourage members to participate.
