Inc. magazine published its annual Inc. 5000 list, and just like in past years, dozens of roofing contractors are being recognized for their exceptional growth.

In its 43rd edition, the Inc. 5000 list ranks the fastest-growing companies in the United States. The rankings are based on three years of annual growth. To qualify, a company must be privately held, for-profit, independent and have generated at least $100,000 in revenue in 2020 and at least $2 million in 2023.

As the editors of Inc. observed, the companies on this year’s list thrived despite the pandemic, the ensuing supply chain difficulties following the pandemic, and historic inflation.

This year’s list includes more than 40 roofing companies, roughly half of which are making their debut appearance as an Inc. 5000 company, while others have been on the list anywhere from two to five times.

Among the companies making the list was Summit Energy, based in Mansfield, Mass., which credited part of its continued growth to the success of its roofing division, Peak Roofing. A solar company succeeding thanks to its involvement in roofing proves that distributors' advice about diversifying into renewable energy is sound.

“We are so thrilled and proud to be named to the Inc. 5000 list for the third year in a row with a ranking of 745 which puts Summit Energy in the top 15% of all companies listed,” said Eric Israelsen, co-founder and chief empower officer of Summit Energy, in a written statement.

As expected, companies backed by private equity are making this year’s list. This includes Highland Roofing Company, which is part of the HCI Equity Partners firm. The roofing company saw 80% growth, earning it the rank of 4,793 on the list.

"This recognition affirms our strategy of driving transformational growth through both acquisitions and investment in organic initiatives, resulting in over 40% of HCI's current portfolio being recognized for achieving these outstanding results,” said Doug McCormick, managing partner and CIO of HCI Equity Partners.

The list also has some crossover with Roofing Contractor's 2024 Top 100 list, which expanded to 150 entries this year. Those companies ranged from Erie Home in Toledo, Ohio (No. 3 in the Top 150) to LocalRoofs in Thousand Oaks, Calif. (#124).

"We are honored to be recognized on both the Inc. 5000 list and Roofing Contractor Magazine's Top 150 Roofing Contractors," said Branden Dickey, CEO of LocalRoofs. "These achievements reflect the hard work and dedication of our team and our ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional service to our customers. As we continue to grow, we remain focused on innovation and excellence in the roofing industry."
