In an unexpected announcement, Oklahoma-based Coryell Roofing appointed Ken Wells as its new president and general manager, effective immediately, according to the company’s Sept. 26 news release.
The announcement said Wells brings “a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to Coryell Roofing,” having previously served in significant leadership roles within the roofing industry. Founder and CEO Chris Coryell’s role has not changed, according to Janelle Nightingale, the company’s marketing and communications manager.
Coryell Roofing stands at a pivotal point of growth and innovation. In partnership with FM Global, Coryell’s founder has been traveling to states throughout the country’s heartland, advocating for a new standard for primary and secondary school roof systems that address the increasing damage several hailstorms have wrought.
Nightingale said Wells’ elevation to president was necessary to fill the role and was a net gain for the company.
"It’s all about maintaining our integrity and core values as we grow,” Wells said in the news release. “We don’t want to lose sight of what brought us here.”
Since 2008, Wells has cultivated a profound appreciation for the industry. Coryell Roofing described his leadership approach as “grounded in integrity and a hands-on” philosophy. "I never ask anybody to do something I wouldn’t do myself. I believe in, trust, and love my team unconditionally," he said.
The company said Wells plans to capitalize on the technology innovation that has swept across the industry in the last few years. Chris Coryell will be a featured speaker at this year’s 20th anniversary Best of Success conference, which will take place Dec. 4-6 in Fort Myers, Fla.
