WALTHAM, Mass. - On the eve of its 25th anniversary in March, the Single Ply Roofing Industry (SPRI) association released statistics showing dramatic increases in acceptance, growth and enhanced field performance of single-ply and modified bitumen roof systems.
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Volunteers of America is seeking skilled and unskilled volunteers to help rebuild the Gulf States that were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. More than a year after the hurricane damage, New Orleans and the Gulf regions in Alabama and Mississippi are still in critical need of assistance.
“Our needs for volunteer help are as great as ever,” said Cathie Peterman, New Orleans director of volunteer services for Volunteers of America.
EUGENE, Ore. - IB Roof Systems donated $5,000 to the nonprofit Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy organization in support of the fight against muscular dystrophy. The association is dedicated to helping parents and children cope with the disease and to finding a cure. The company presented the check to IB representative Will Maddux (pictured, left), whose son Alex was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy two years ago.
AGAWAM, Mass. - OMG Inc. announced it has acquired ITW Buildex’s roofing business segment, which develops and manufactures fastening systems for the commercial roofing industry. OMG plans to maintain existing product branding to ensure a seamless transition for customers. INDIANAPOLIS - Firestone Building Products Co. announced plans to build a new 160,000-square-foot distribution center adjacent to its EPDM manufacturing plant and distribution center in Prescott, Ariz. The center will provide the company’s complete line of single-ply roofing systems and rooftop accessories. Scheduled to open in late spring 2007, the company’s sixth distribution center will help serve growing customer demand in the South.
DALLAS - On Feb. 2, ElkCorp
announced that Building Materials Corporation of America (BMCA) had
agreed to extend the expiration date of its irrevocable and binding
offer to acquire ElkCorp from the previously agreed expiration date of
Feb. 6. to Feb. 12. BMCA agreed to the extension at the request of the
Dallas County Court pending a hearing on a shareholder plaintiff action
that will now be heard on Feb. 9.

CITY, Ga. - Engage Machinery announced Larry Chandonnet has joined Frank Callis
as a partner in the sheet metal equipment company. A sheet metal industry
veteran, Chandonnet served as a partner at MetalForming for six years and
created Detailed Metals in 2004.

Nev. - Polyglass USA has developed two new regional business units and
appointed their respective managers. Greg Perkins was appointed vice president,
business unit manager for the company’s original domestic manufacturing plant
in Fernley, Nev. Perkins will oversee manufacturing, maintenance, purchasing,
logistics and customer service for the plant.
DALLAS - Christopher Gardner will provide the
keynote address during the 2007 International Roofing Expo (IRE), which will be
held March 6-8 in Las Vegas. Gardner, the president and CEO of the
Chicago-based brokerage firm Gardner Rich & Co., detailed his life story in
his best-selling book, The Pursuit of Happyness.

75th Anniversary in 2007. “The very first shipment of colored roofing granules
was made from the 3M Wausau plant in 1932,” stated Tim Worms, marketing manager
for 3M Industrial Mineral Products Division. “That Wausau shipment was truly
foundational to building today’s IMPD reputation for high quality and the
commitment to doing what it takes to satisfy our customers.”
