I recently spoke with a contractor and a manufacturer about a project that brought a bus company’s roof into compliance with OSHA regulations. The multi-level roof lacked perimeter fall protection, and its ladders weren’t up to code. The story has some lessons for roofing contractors out there. 

Well the party is over (for now) with the $8,000 new-homebuyer credit. Many expect the small burst in new-home construction will drop and we will return to the doldrums. I do not think so. 

It is about time.

I was delighted to come across a YouTube video of Chad Collins testifying before a Congressional committee looking into  the Green Roofing Energy Efficiency Tax Act of 2009 (GREETA). 

I’m an ardent fan of the great outdoors. I run and bike on nature trails. I’m the family recycling nut. My favorite vacation destinations are Zion National Park, The Grand Canyon, Glacier National Park, and Bryce Canyon. I love lakes, rivers and the ocean. 

Business consultant Ellen Rohr thinks big. I always get a kick out of her presentations, and she does a great job of explaining business concepts in fun ways that help drive the point home. At one of our Best of Success conferences, she presented a session on managing other family members while managing a family business.

I’ll admit it. I’m not a giant fan of reading financials and management reporting.

I really do. I love change. It makes my writing job so easy. Getting words structured into proper sentences and spelling words right is not much of a challenge when you have spell checker along with talented and educated editors fixing everything you mess up (thanks, y’all).

At an American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) meeting last year, the issue of heat aging of TPO single-ply roofing membranes was raised and a tougher test standard proposed.
