The Department of Energy has awarded X-MAT an additional $2.2 million to continue its work building a house completely of coal.

The grant provides the funding necessary to move X-MAT's coal-based technology toward commercialization by building a pilot manufacturing line in Bluefield, W.Va.

X-MAT, the Advanced Materials Division of Semplastics, revealed it's taken massive strides in the creation of a home built entirely out of coal-derived materials.

X-MAT and Semplastics received a nearly $625,000 contract to create coal-derived building materials in order to construct a coal house.

X-MAT is redefining the ways coal can be used by creating durable roofing tiles and more with a revolutionary coal composite.
