It’s no surprise that veteran roofing contractors Kris Hitesman and Chuck Chapman are strong advocates for membership in the Western States Roofing Contractors Association (WSRCA). Hitesman, of Capital Roofing in Utah, was just inducted president of the association at the 2024 Western Roofing Expo in Las Vegas; and Chapman, is a past president and member of the WSRCA Hall of Fame. Yet they both say they can’t overstate the association’s role in their success over multiple decades in the roofing industry.

“The relationships we’ve built with other contractors and the information that WSRCA provides to their members is amazing. I don’t know where we’d be today.” Hitesman said.

Along with being colleagues on the WSRCA Executive Board, both Chapman and Hitesman recently brought consultants into their companies for help with internal communication. Chapman described it as internal business development, and building their teams to be cohesive units moving forward.

“We have a common brand now that everybody on our team is projecting out there on the job, instead of 20 different messages,” he said. That cohesiveness and interaction made them more efficient and even more profitable.

The changes in Capitol Roofing’s culture were also profound.

“Communication is the roof of all of this,” Hitesman added. “One of my employees recently said to me that he feels like he’s being heard, which makes him a happier and more productive employee. We’re using everyone’s input.”
