WADSWORTH, Ohio - Soprema Inc. broke ground on a new plant in the Bayou Bernard Industrial Park located in Gulfport, Miss. The company purchased 23 acres from Harrison County to build the 56,000-square-foot factory, which will produce the company's SBS modified bitumen product line. Soprema anticipates hiring up to 50 new employees when the plant is fully operational. Local Gulfport contractor H. Gordon Myrick will design and build the factory.

"We're very excited to add to our manufacturing capacity," stated vice president Gilbert Lorenzo. "The Harrison County Development Commission staff and local contractors were instrumental in our decision to locate in Gulfport."

The plant will be Soprema's second American production facility. The company's Ohio plant recently dedicated a new 1,817-square-foot laboratory for the study of liquid membrane for use in the roofing and waterproofing industry. Several chemists were hired with the goal of developing a non-asphaltic product from liquid polyurethane.
