The Reflective Roof Coatings Institute enjoyed record-setting attendance at its third annual Mid-Year Technical Meeting held Aug. 21 in Medina, Ohio, on the RPM International campus.

Kansas City, Mo. - The Reflective Roof Coatings Institute enjoyed record-setting attendance at its third annual Mid-Year Technical Meeting held Aug. 21 in Medina, Ohio, on the RPM International campus. More than 60 representatives of manufacturers, raw materials suppliers, consultants and associates of the industry gathered to hear presentations from speakers focusing on application of reflective coatings over a variety of traditional roofing systems as well as spray polyurethane foam.

Presentations included description in detail of existing single-ply membranes and modified bitumen systems, and how to effectively apply reflective coatings to each. Speakers and topics included Frank Sullivan, President and CEO of RPM International Inc., “Today and Tomorrow’s Economy: Its Impact on the Industry”; Jim Burkett, Product Development Manager of GenFlex Roofing Systems, “EPDM and TPO Substrates”; Roger Morrison, Senior Staff Engineer of NCFI Polyurethanes, “Coatings Over Spray Polyurethane Foam”; Tim Kersey, Technical Development Manager of Siplast Inc., “Modified Bitumen and Asphalt”; and Joseph Schwetz, Manager-Technical Services of Sika Sarnafil, “PVC Materials.”

The Institute held its business meeting highlighting its activities in 2008, including the marketing committee’s work on Web site reconstruction, the initiation of a quarterly e-newsletter, the technical committee’s update on the in-process field study and a presentation of the next field study concept: reflective roof coating and a life-cycle cost benefit study.
