DALLAS — Lon Smith Roofing has launched its Roof for Vets program for another year.
According to the north Texas contractor, the program takes nominations from the public for military veterans who need a new roof but can't financially afford to purchase one on their own.
"We decided to create the Roof for Vets program as a way of saying 'thank you' to those who have worn the uniform and kept us safe," said Lon Smith Executive Scott Hamilton. "This is our third year of offering the program and we are excited to honor more veterans this year."
Lon Smith chose Wardell Simpson as its first recipient for 2019. During the Vietnam era, Wardell served three years in the U.S. Army, eventually rising to the rank of Spec 4.
"The house's roof has been experiencing leaks for some time,” Hamilton said. “But Wardell hasn't had the financial means to buy a new roof. Now, we are taking care of that problem for the Simpson family."
The Roof for Vets program selects a worthy veteran each quarter of the year and installs a new roof at no charge. Nominations are currently open for the second quarter. Learn more at lonsmith.com.
