The National Women in Roofing (NWIR) Mentorship Committee has revealed the winners of the 2020 NWiR Day and IRE N.E.W.S. (Network of Educating Women Scholarship).
This year's scholarship winners are:
- Xochitl Arango, The Roofing Lady. Arango has more than 18 years of experience in the industry, and founded The Roofing Lady in July 1999 in Long Beach, Calif.
- Tammy Johns, T Johns Roofing & Construction. Johns is the owner and operator of T Johns Roofing & Construction on Oklahoma City. She is also a founding member of the NWIR.
More than 70 women applied for the scholarship. The NWIR committee took the time to read through each application and discuss each candidate. In addition to being an NWIR member, applicants had to be women working as or employed by a roofing contractor and able to attend NWIR-hosted sessions.
The scholarship includes the following: Attendance at NWIR Day on Feb. 2, International Roofing Expo Tradeshow Expo Passes, Super Passes to education sessions held Feb. 4-6, attendance at the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) Awards Banquet, hotel accommodations and roundtrip airfare, and a tailored agenda with a host provided by the NWIR Mentorship Committee.
This is the second year the NWIR has offered the scholarship program.
