HILLSBORO, Texas — Hillsboro Area Chamber of Commerce has named IKO’s asphalt shingle manufacturing facility in Hillsboro, Texas, its Regional Business of the Year. The IKO Southwest plant was formally recognized by the organization at its annual awards banquet, held in mid-May.
Opened in 2018, the 250,000-square-foot manufacturing and warehousing facility supplies shingles to customers in Texas and surrounding areas of the southwestern U.S. In its nomination, IKO was lauded for its commitment to continuous improvement, its construction of more new facilities over the past two decades than any other company in its sector and the expansion of production in Hillsboro.
IKO is adding a production shift to the facility, which will increase employment at the plant and allow the factory to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week to supply much-needed building materials to customers in Texas and across the U.S.
The Hillsboro plant and its employees were also recently recognized by the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) as part of that association’s annual Accident Prevention Contest.
The facility received an ARMA Perfect Employee Safety Certificate in recognition of earning a perfect safety score for the year. It, along with IKO’s plants in Wilmington, Delaware, and Sylacauga, Alabama, also received an ARMA Certificate of Safety Improvement, which marks an improvement of 25% or more over the previous year.
“We are grateful to be recognized by both of these valued organizations. Every member of our team in Hillsboro should be proud of these accomplishments,” said Plant Manager Eric Dobransky. “IKO is committed to manufacturing the highest-quality building products safely, using the most modern equipment and processes, something that we are honored to display every day at our Hillsboro plant.”
