Despite efforts by some states to oppose President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 vaccination mandate for federal employees and contractors, the legal writing is on the wall – for now. That means roofing contractors that rely on federal contracts and specific programs for work will need to comply with new regulations — and fast.
At the same time, OSHA is issuing an emergency temporary standard to enforce a mandate that employers with 100 or more employees must vaccinate their workforce or undergo regular testing.
"It's happening so quickly that private employers can't keep up with it," said Trent Cotney, CEO of Cotney Attorneys & Consultants. "In an area where skilled labor is such a huge issue, are you really going to terminate people or not hire people that are part-vaccinated?"
