Gaco, part of the Holcim Building Envelope portfolio, just unveiled its latest product, GacoFlex A48 acrylic roof coating, which the company says is the first and only single-component, high-build acrylic roof coating that can be applied up to 80 wet mils (5 gal/SQ) in a single pass application*.
Described in a company release as a “fast-cure acrylic elastomeric roof coating,” Gaco says its GacoFlex A48 offers an extended roof life, upgraded visual appeal, strong adhesion, high tensile strength and excellent reflectivity. It also touts the product’s environmentally friendly benefits by avoiding costly tear-offs, thus reducing landfill waste.
Gaco says its GacoFlex A48 can be applied as a roof maintenance coating over many existing roof substrates, including single-ply, metal, sprayed-in-place polyurethane foam, and asphalt membranes.
The company says GacoFlex A48 offers early rain resistance in as little as 30 minutes, with complete cure-through in about eight hours±. The new product can be sprayed from a standard acrylic spray system and does not require more expensive plural component equipment.
“For over 60 years, Gaco has provided innovative, market-leading products that help contractors succeed and make their businesses more efficient,” said Carl De Leon, senior vice president of Technology, Holcim Building Envelope. “A48 leverages the latest developments in roof coating technology, resulting in a sustainable product that streamlines the application process.”
GacoFlex A48 is described as a water-based, zinc-free solution with low volatile organic compounds [VOCs], making it an “environmentally friendly option with no geographic restrictions.” According to the statement, the coating launched in white, with gray and tan options coming later this year.
