Roofing contractors and close friends Eric Oberembt and Paul Reed share a bond over many things, including overcoming substance abuse. As recovering addicts, they thought they could help another roofer facing similar obstacles by sponsoring someone’s stay in a rehabilitation center. Despite the stigma associated with substance abuse, it didn’t take very long to find a worthy candidate.
“We helped them and sent them into treatment, and then all of a sudden the phone kept ringing,” Oberembt said in this recent videochat with RC Publisher Jill Bloom. “And the phone kept ringing … and all of a sudden, Paul and I were on the phone all the time talking to people.”
Now Reed and Eric Oberembt operate Roofers in Recovery, a 501c3 nonprofit that helps get roofing contractors battling substance issues into treatment.
